Blind Archery Club has been labeled one of the most exciting new bands in Norway. And there's a good reason why:
Formed four years ago by five childhood friends the band quickly became an institution where the boys could evolve and explore both their friendship and music. Spending the first year playing around and swapping instruments they soon found that between them they had something special. Something on which they could found a career within the music industry based on determination, solidarity and fun. BACs members have been through a fair share of ups and downs. Some years back Anders was hospitalized due to a severe cerebral hemorrhage and it made them all realize that music makes a meaningful life. Revelations like this spawn the greatest kind of music.
The band soon started recording a five track demo which eventually found it's way to a number of industry professionals and record labels. After playing more than 50 shows around the country they had built a reputation as a formidable live act and in October 2005 Blind Archery Club signed a booking deal with Atomic Agency. Two months later they became the only band to be signed to a major label in Norway that year as they signed a record deal with Sony/BMG Norway.
The next year BAC spent in the studio and on the road taking time off from recording their debut album. Many of the songs originally intended for the album never made the track list and new songs took their place. Experimenting a lot the band sought out different locations and instruments in pursuit of the right sounds and the exquisite rings. At one point, to give his voice a hoarse touch, Pelle was voluntarily forced into the studio after a night of mean whiskey, shagged tobacco and two hours of sleep, to lay down the vocals for the title track of the album.
Blind Archery Clubs debut album "The Union" was released in Norway in February 2007. That same week their second single "Off The Deep End" reached no. 4 in the Norwegian radio charts. The album got off to a flying start. Influenced by both the British and the American rock scene "The Union" contains beautiful harmonies seasoned with layers of different emotions, moods and meanings. Anxiety, hope, darkness, change, and relations to name but a few. From the hopeful buzzing of "The Better Life", the thrilling "Off The Deep End" through the irish folk inspired "The Union" and on to the rejoicing west coast feel of "High On Morning Dew" the album journeys through seasons and traditions of the last 30 years of rock n' roll. The piano driven song "Claremont" completes the album encouraging the listener to slow down and take a look around. There are too many valuable things you'll miss out on if you never take the time. "Slow down, open up to the sounds that tango to your heartbeat"
In February the band played the biggest music conference in Scandinavia, by:larm, and were hailed as one of the definitive highlights. Blind Archery Club was quickly becoming a household name in their native Norway. Soon they started a tour that would take them outside of Norway for the fir st time.
After a long summer of touring playing major Norwegian summer festivals such as Norwegian Wood, Quart and Lost Weekend, visiting several countries on the European continent, writing new material and having their fourth single out and climbing the charts, Blind Archery Club has their eyes fixed on the future. It's time to take on the world...
"And we´ve seen a band from Oslo, Blind Archery Club. They were crazy! Smart, sophisticated pop with complex harmonies. Really great!"
